17:00 Scenic transfer to the brand new Ice Domes
The Ice Domes in Tamok is brand new and much less commercialised than other options. The snow and ice art reflect the unique bond between man and nature in a unique and breath-taking manner. The ice bars, the ice cinema, the ice hotel suites and ice restaurant have changing themes every year. These are conveyed through beautiful coloured lighting and wonderful ice sculptures. Guided tours paint a detailed description of Arctic history. Tromsø Ice Domes is much more than just an ice art exhibition or a regular ice hotel.
On arrival, you will be greeted by your local expert guide. They will start by explaining the construction process of an ice hotel, and the impact on snow for the survival of our arctic animals. A non-alcoholic ice shot at the stunning ice bar is complementary.
19:50 Snowshoe & Northern Lights Safari
After some free time to explore the Ice Domes, your guide will take you out into the Arctic night on snowshoes. Explore the vast & untouched wilderness under a starry night sky while hunting for the ever-elusive Northern Lights. Far from civilisation and city light pollution, this is the perfect environment to spot and photograph Northern Lights. Continue the search as your guide prepares dinner under an open fire in the wild.
NB: Northern lights sightings cannot be guaranteed due to weather and solar conditions, but we will do our very best!
22:30-00:00 Approximate arrival back at the Ice Hotel
Spend the night surrounded by snow & ice in an exclusive ice hotel suite at the Ice Domes, with uniquely crafted ice sculptures & architecture in each room.
OPTIONAL EXTRAS: 10:30 (must be added when booking)
Your exhilarating adventure will start at 10.30AM from the wilderness camp.
Snowmobiling: No previous skills are required to drive a snowmobile. All you need is a regular driving license, and a safety talk will be given before the tour. The starting point is at an altitude of 250 m above sea level, and the guide will bring you up to an elevation of 875 m. Picture the sunrise colours reflected off the snow-covered mountains! You can practically see ice crystals in the crisp morning air.
Dog Sledding: After an introduction to the huskies, you will receive instructions on how to drive a dog team. When you’re ready, drive the dog sled on your own into the white landscapes. Look out for Arctic animal tracks as you glide through silent snowy landscapes! The area where you lead the sled is totally uninhabited, with a landscape of mountains and forest. Out in the wilderness, these dogs fit in perfectly to their environment.
Reindeer Sledding: Join authentic Sami guides, who come from a Sami family with long reindeer herding traditions, for a sleigh ride like no other. Enjoy an unforgettable experience of pure reindeer sledding as well as an introduction to Sami culture. Known as the only indigenous people in Europe, the Samis have been nomads in the Arctic territories of Russia, Finland, Sweden and Norway for centuries.
